What we’ve been eating…

We have been eating our colors and more whole foods…at least during the week 😁

I wanted to share with you some of our yummy weekday meals starting with this lunch. We used the sweet kale salad kit and baked up some frozen air fryer chicken tenders.

These tenders were from Tyson and they were crispy and delicious. I have to add though that you need some kind of sauce to dip it in because they do run on the dryer side.

I mentioned in my last post the breakfast tacos I have been making with the Siete tortillas.

I roasted up some potatoes for the week to create a quick and delicious breakfast.

The addition of some yummy pickled veggies amped up the flavor!

Watermelon has been a go to snack recently. We get one good watermelon and we are on a roll with finding all the sweet, juicy ones.

For dinner one night we made a stir fry with yuba noodles. Yuba noodles are made from tofu and add a chewy texture and a bit of protein.

We did a combo of shrimp, broccoli, onion and mushroom. It was tasty and filling!

The protein pancakes from Kodiak Cakes and cherries have been another go to breakfast. I love cherries and am so happy it’s cherry season 🙂

These are our eats as of late! What have you been munching on??

Siete Almond Flour Tortillas

I love making subs to more whole foods when given the chance. I had heard about the Siete brand if tortillas from a YouTuber and was very curious.

I am usually skeptical about “healthier” carb alternatives, but I am glad I took the leap to try them out.

They are pricey at almost $8 for 8 tortillas. I found them in my Sprout’s freezer section, but they may be in the refrigerator section of your grocery store.

I put them in my freezer so they last and they thaw out really quickly so it has not been a big deal. I cook them up with a little cooking spray on a non stick pan. They bubble up and become crisp and chewy.

I have been making breakfast burritos with them. They are thin and light but they taste exactly like a flour tortilla to me.

They have tortillas made with other flours like chickpea if that sounds more interesting. I am curious about the chickpea version but I am going to use the almond ones up first.

I am loving these tortillas and the wholesome ingredients. They are great for my weekday meals and super versatile.

Have you guys tried these tortillas? What did you think? Let me know in the comments!

Some fun eats

Hi friends!

I feel like it’s been a minute since I shared about any food that we have eaten out.

I wanted to come on here and chat with you guys about some fun food we have had.

With the season change we have had a lot of different fruit at the house. We love our fruit! Mangoes and grapes have been so good recently!

Our love for pizza still runs strong so some Blaze had to be included in the mix. That veggie pie was spicy-between the jalapenos and the chili flakes we always add. I’m getting heartburn thinking about it, but boy was it worth it.

The pb cups were an impulse grab when we made a Sprout’s run. These were not peanut buttery enough but hubby enjoyed them!

We discovered a new Mediterranean spot-Luna. They have such yummy wraps! Their fries are pretty great too. They are thin and crispy, but still soft on the inside!

Baked was closed for a while and has now reopened only on weekends and for a few hours. We had to support one of our favorite local businesses and picked up some cupcakes!

Our Chick-fil-a had been closed for reconstruction. We were so happy to see them open back up and we headed into the drive through for our usual. We had 2 spicy chicken sammies with extra pickles, small fry, and some grilled nugs on the side.

It’s been a little while since we had an actual cheesecake from Cheesecake Factory so we decided to try the Reese’s. It was very good, but I do wish it had chunks of Reese’s cups in it. At some point I would like to try the Adam’s pb cheesecake.

Have you guys had any fun eats? How are you all holding up? Let’s talk in the comments!

Taco Tuuuuesdayyy

When Cinco de Mayo falls on a Tuesday, you gotta Taco Tuesday! Or at least that’s what my husband said…

I came home from work on Tuesday and he totally surprised me with a full taco set up! We had chicken, pico, guac, salsa, onions, radish, “sour cream” (Greek yog), and of course umm Sriracha to mix it all up 😀

This was so incredibly delicious and we had some leftover priduce that we extended Taco Tuesday in Taco Wednesday. Instead of chicken, we used shrimp seasoned with TJ’s taco seasoning and had the exact same set up. It was so yummy!

Since I still had tortillas leftover, I made myself a breakfast taco with scrambled eggs, sauteed/steamed kale, and obvi Sriracha. I realize I take my food pictures pre-Sriracha so I intentionally made sure the Sriracha was on this time!

I never thought about making legit tacos at home before (I know, silly me!) but after this I am wondering what other delicious concoctions we could come up with…stay tuned!

Did you guys do Taco Tuesday last week? What kind of tacos do you make at home? I would love to hear all the ideas!

Loco Moco

Hi friends!

I’m sorry there was no post on Monday, but I am back today! I may be sticking with one post a week for the next little while, but we shall see.

I wanted to share with you this loco moco bowl we made. When we lived in the Valley we frequented Oi Asian Fusion and would always get their loco burger bowl.

I have no idea why we never thought about cooking this dish up, but it was super simple.

This tasty bowl of comfort includes rice, a burger patty, sunny side egg and gravy.

We cooked up rice and a burger patty and used the McCormick packets to make our gravy. Hubby fried the perfect sunny side egg to top our bowls!

I chopped up seaweed sheets to add on top. It adds a good punch of flavor!

This would be a great dish for a busy day when you have little time but want something hearty and filling.

Let me know if you have ever made this dish or tried it and what you think.

I’ll see you guys next week!

Weekends Before Social Distancing :)

I thought it would be nice to look back on the good ol’ days that were filled with friends, food, and fun…gosh you guys I do love a good alliteration 🙂

This particular weekend recap is from a while ago so pleaaase enjoy the post and continue to stay at home and Facetime!

IMG-20200223-WA0003

We’ve always been big into including workouts and plenty of activity just to help balance out some of the goodies we eat during the weekends. We started Friday off with a good workout and a walk to Starbucks for breakfast.

IMG-20200223-WA0001

We always love their spinach egg white feta wrap, turkey bacon and cheddar and egg English muffin, and the egg white sous vide. It was a really great breakfast! There was a farmer’s market so after breakfast we walked around and bought some mandarins and oranges.

We had a fun little dinner at King’s Fish House. We somehow ended up getting full of apps and their delicious sourdough bread and that was totally fine!

We ended up walking home as rain started sprinkling down and had some dessert at home. We’ve both been enjoying having more fruit and I am so excited for summer fruit season!

IMG-20200223-WA0018

We watched The Stranger-you guys we literally watched every single episode in this one night. It was so good!

Saturday included another workout and we ended up heading to the mall to find some work shoes for me. We found some good options, but ultimately decided to find some online.

We did find a kiosk selling these marshmallow treats and we had to try them! They ended up being just okay, but I am happy to have tried them.

IMG-20200223-WA0011

We hung out with some friends Saturday night. Our initial plan was sushi, but there was an hour to 90 minute wait and we were not about that. We left and went to a food market and tried out the wing spot-Fire Wings.

IMG-20200223-WA0006

I loved doing this because we got to try a bunch of different flavors and my absolute favorite out of all of this was the seasoned fries and the Thai chili wings. You guys these were some crispy wings! I cannot wait to go back and see if the quality stands and try more flavors!

We kept Sunday pretty chill. Instead of a workout we went on a walk and picked up some last minute groceries.

We caught up on stuff and got ready for the week ahead. After wrapping up laundry we went and walked to pick up dinner and dessert.

We’ve been loving the larger pizzas from Blaze so we ordered a couple (one for today and one for the week).

IMG-20200223-WA0025

I got some mini cupcakes from Baked and I am so sad to report that three out of four of these cupcakes were “meh.” They seemed almost dry? The dulce de leche was still so good though 🙂

IMG-20200223-WA0026

We consumed more fruit and went for another walk before settling in to chill out for the night.

Let me know what your current weekends are looking like in the comments below!

Not Breakfast Foods for Breakfast

I feel like at this point in my life I will eat any type of food for any meal. I find myself craving sushi for breakfast sometimes.

Since 2020 has started I have been eating a bunch of random things for breakfast.

Pizza is something I have had for breakfast many times. It feels like a complete meal-carbs, protein, fats. This particular day we had gone out to Huntington and revisited Zero Zero pizza. It was so yummy!

IMG-20200216-WA0026IMG-20200216-WA0027

There was another day I had dumplings and baby carrots. I woke up craving something savory. I had no eggs so I opened the freezer thinking I will just have pancakes, but spotted the frozen potstickers from Trader Joe’s.

I had a few left and they had been in there for a minute. I figured they sound good right now so why not??

20200212_094437

After the gym one morning In n’ Out sounded particularly good. I got a cheeseburger animal style and had my leftover salad. It’s all about balance, right?! 😁

20200214_120349

Now that I have shared some of my odd breakfast decisions, tell me some of yours! Do you crave non-breakfast items in the morning? Let’s talk in the comments! Till next time!

Sonoratown and Somisomi

Remember that post I shared with you guys about Worth It? That show on YouTube that goes to different restaurants to try a food at three different price points?

IMG-20200210-WA0001

Well, they tried tacos and since then Sonoratown has been on our mind. They kept talking about how amazing the flour tortillas were and I just knew me+Sonoratown=match made in heaven.

IMG-20200210-WA0021

When we arrived there was a line and initially it didn’t seem to be moving but we managed to get through the line and order all in about 30 minutes.

IMG-20200210-WA0007

After that wait we basically ordered one of everything on the menu.

We got two tacos-a chicken and beef, a shredded beef chivichanga (mini burrito), a chicken burrito, and a tostada.

20200208_132009

IMG-20200210-WA0003

They gave us salsa to go with it all and we both loved the red. It was fresh and bright with a good bit of spice.

Out of the food I loved everything. The tostada was my favorite along with the tacos and chivichanga. The burrito was good and ended up being the hubby’s favorite.

20200208_132016

I am oh so happy we got to try this spot out!

Afterwards we needed something sweet so we paid the meter and headed to Little Tokyo to find some dessert.

Somisomi met all our requirements so we stopped in and hubs got the milk softserve and I got matcha. Normally we get them in the taiyaki cones but this time we switched it up a bit.

IMG-20200210-WA0006IMG-20200210-WA0019

We ordered the softserve in cups and got the taiyaki on the side filled with nutella.

We had a few bites of our softserve before the piping hot taiyaki came out. Oh.em.gee. My life has been changed. This is definitely the way to do it!

IMG-20200210-WA0024

The hot, chewy taiyaki dipped into the cold, cresmy softserve is the best mixing of temps and textures 🤤

It was a pretty fantastic way to spend the day!

Have you had taiyaki? What did you think?

Thanks for reading! See you next time!

Sunday Funday

I woke up one Sunday not feeling my best, but we got up and got ready to hit the gym.

While having coffee I mentioned how the grey day outside reminded me of a day we went to get Sidecar and how good that sounded…

IMG-20200210-WA0029

Next thing we know we ditched the gym and planned a little 45 minute drive to hit up the closest Sidecar 😁 I mean, do I have the bestest husband ever or is he the bestest husband ever?

IMG-20200210-WA0032

When we arrived there was a line, but it moved quickly and pretty soon we were in and smelling the goodness.

We decided to get six donuts: the blueberry champagne, Saigon cinnamon, butter and salt, butterscotch crunch, a glazed yeast, and a birthday cake.

IMG-20200210-WA0045IMG-20200210-WA0060IMG-20200210-WA0064

As much as we wanted to dive face first into these bad boys we had a little self control and made a stop at Shirley’s to get a bagel.

IMG-20200210-WA0044

We had never heard of Shirley’s but there was a line so we figured it’s probably pretty good. We ordered an everything bagel with cream cheese.

If I am being completely honest this was totally okay. Nothing magical about it, but the blueberry champagne doughnut we had after…holy moly deliciousness.

It was soft and sweet and creamy! I loved it so much!

We found this cool little mall and did some walking around before heading back home.

We dropped by Sprout’s and had to try the Terra sweet potato chips Hunida had mentioned and totally loved them. They were crunchy and perfectly salty, a great Sunday snack!

We had initially planned on having pizza for dinner but with the grey weather and me feeling under the weather we decided on pho!

IMG-20200210-WA0066

We got the rare beef and it was really good and so flavorful! I definitely did not finish mine but made a valiant effort.

IMG-20200210-WA0070

Dessert was our Sidecar doughnuts and I can’t began to tell you how good their doughnuts are. My favorites were the blueberry champagne, glazed yeast, butter and salt and the birthday cake.

So basically all of them…😂

Our dinner was basically a linner of sorts so we had some more dessert in the form of a fruit platter.

We had never had star fruit and decided to try it out. The one we had was crunchy like an apple but didn’t have much flavor.

IMG-20200210-WA0058

That concludes our full day of eating on this fun Sunday!

What’s your favorite way to doctor up pho? I love all of the things and a good amount of sriracha.

Let’s chat pho and doughnuts in the comments below 😊

Vacation Recap

Happy Thursday!

It might be a good idea for you guys to grab a snack and sit down for this post because it may run a little long. I’m going to try to recap a whole week into one “quick-ish” post 😀

Our vacation started with a drive out to Phoenix. It ended up being a quick drive with just one pit stop for gas, bathroom, and breakfast. We kept it pretty chill the day we arrived and explored the area we were staying as well as an outdoor mall.

20200229_061019

There was a vegan festival going on so that was our plan for dinner but sadly it ended at 5pm and we missed it. We ended up going to Old Town Scottsdale to try to find some dinner. It being dinner time and the weather being nice the wait everywhere was pretty crazy. After much craziness we put our names down at Rehab Burger and walked around.

We grabbed some apps/snacks from another restaurant to hold us over. Nothing super exciting. Hummus/pita and chips/salsa held us over until we were finally called to our table.

This burger place was FANTASTIC. You must check it out if you’re in the area. The hubs and I shared a poblano burger without the cheese and just a basic cheeseburger and both were fantastic. I can’t tell you how much I couldn’t stop talking about this place. It was absolutely worth the wait!

The next day hub’s cousin had planned a day in Sedona which is 90ish minutes away from Phoenix. Sedona was so gorgeous and freezing! We explored a church and some areas with these cute local stores. While there we found some treats to try and shared this frozen chocolate covered cheesecake.

IMG-20200307-WA0071

We grabbed some apps at a local vegan place before heading back home.

IMG-20200307-WA0076IMG-20200307-WA0077IMG-20200307-WA0082

That night the fam surprised me with an ice-cream cake and singing! I died! It was so sweet (the singing and the cake) 🙂

Monday March 2nd we woke up and had our last workout in Phoenix before showering and getting ready to head back to good ol’ California. Our drive, thankfully again, was not bad and we made it home around 3/4pm. This was basically a good recovery day. We threw in laundry from the trip and got a few groceries, a Red Box, and picked up the Habit for dinner.

IMG-20200307-WA0120

Tuesday March 3rd we worked out and headed to Disneyland! You guys after living in SoCal for 3.5 years we still had never been and I was SO excited. I think we got there around 2pm and left around 8:30pm. A lot of walking but we are totally all about that.

IMG-20200307-WA0029

IMG-20200307-WA0103IMG-20200307-WA0108IMG-20200307-WA0112

To say it was magical would be an understatement. I think we were both overwhelmed by all of the things. After entering the park we realized a parade was about to start so had to stop and see that. We also stopped and got some refreshments-a turkey leg and a churro. After a few rides we got some of the Mickey beignets! Everything was delicious!

We were so exhausted by the time we left but had a ton of fun!

Wednesday March 4th we headed to Disney’s Adventure Land. This day didn’t go as well sadly…once we arrived I saw that they had this crazy water ride that was just about to open as we were walking up. I didn’t realize how wet we would get and we hopped on and got completely soaked. The rest of our time was spend with completely soaked shoes and socks. We were so cold after the sunset and miserable! We did see Frozen and walked around, but couldn’t handle it anymore and left after a few hours.

IMG-20200307-WA0033

Thursday March 5th was the birthday and I wanted to keep it pretty chill after all the go, go, go! I opened up presents from the hubs and that night I wanted some wings so we went to Fire Wings. They were delicious!

IMG-20200307-WA0042

Friday March 6th we ran some errands and headed out to LA to have dinner with a friend from out of town. She wanted to check out Catch LA! The place was so gorgeous! The food was super tasty and I can’t wait to share more about it on a later post 😉

IMG-20200307-WA0013

Saturday March 7th we went for a hike and finished up some grocery shopping for the upcoming week. We stayed closer to home and had AYCE sushi at Sushi Martini for dinner with a friend!

IMG-20200308-WA0005

We did stop by Cheesecake for the chocolate tower truffle cake and the chocolate fudge cake. They got the order wrong and gave us a fudge cake and a lemon mascarpone cake but no chocolate tower. Hubby went back to return the lemon mascarpone and they ended up letting him keep it and gave him the correct chocolate tower truffle cake (our fave)!

IMG-20200308-WA0000

On Sunday I had some vacation blues but kept it going by getting in a workout and getting ready for the week. We also filed our taxes on our own for the first time…whaaat?? Major adulting happening over here you guys!

Anyways I really hope you all had a lovely week and that you’re as excited about the weekend as I am! Now that I have run down my vacay week, let me know what your weekend plans are?

I’ll see you sweets on Monday!
