A little update

Hi friends!

I feel like 2020 has been a wild ride so far and it has brought a few changes. I thought it would be a good idea to sit down and give you guys an update on our lives.

Starting with blogs-I decided to not renew my personal plan and stick with the free version. I haven’t felt the same excitement about blogging in a while and if I am not fully utilizing it, I don’t feel like I should spend the money. I think that this might relieve some of the pressure of having to post and I can jump on and write when the mood strikes.

Gyms still are not open where I live and I have started including a once a week jog to switch up the fitness routine. Initially, my shins hurt and I felt like I was on the struggle bus but it has improved significantly. I am so happy that my body is adapting to this new physical activity!

We are moving!! My sweet husband worked his butt off and got his dream job in Spokane, Washington. I am so proud of this gem of a man. He is incredible! We went out this past weekend to find an apartment and the plan is to try and move mid July.

I can’t think of anything else for now so I am going to end it here. Thank you guys for reading! I am hoping to see you lovelies next week 🙂

October Shopping Update

It has been about 3 months since I started this journey of not buying any clothes, shoes, or accessories until next July. It’s been about a month since my last update and I know I was feeling pretty strong and had no strong shopping urges.

Since then we’ve hit another season and I have definitely had some twinges. I did kinda know this would happen. I mean I had done plenty of shopping before July and had plenty of summer items to wear. I’m not saying I don’t have plenty of fall and winter things to wear, but the cute new things are pulling at my heart strings.

My previous plan had been to just avoid, avoid, avoid. I unsubscribed from emails, would avoid walking into the women’s section at any clothing store, and would zip through any insta advertisements. I decided recently that that I may have to change my tactic.

The Target we currently live close to seems to have the biggest selection of women’s clothing and it’s hard not to see it as you walk through the store, but I never go into the section. I decided that it might be good for me to just go in and check out what they have and see if it’s stuff that I would buy to wear and use or just find to be pretty. As I walked through I realized it was more just stuff I found to be pretty.

This was a big relief as you can imagine and I left the store with no purchases. I still have no plans to resubscribe to emails, but I think if I get the urge to shop I will go do some “window” shopping. I think there’s something soothing about just seeing what’s out there and if it’s a need vs a want and something I would use more than once or twice.

Don’t get me wrong I have no issues purchasing a want over a need, but a part of this process was to figure out what pieces I use and gravitate towards and what pieces are missing from my wardrobe.

So far, I’m still enjoying the process. I still like figuring out what to wear from my own wardrobe instead of running out and buying something every time I feel like I have “nothing to wear.”

I hope you guys are enjoying these updates as much as I enjoy writing them up! Thanks for reading!

Happy Labor Day!

Happy Monday and Happy Labor Day!

I love a good long weekend even if I don’t always get to participate (I do this time)! I hope you are all having a great weekend and start to the week. I am working on a couple of posts from this past weekend and those will probably be going up next week 🙂

Until then, enjoy this picture of a lunch I had! And yes, that lovely blob are sardines, and yes they don’t picture great, BUT they sure did make a yummy lettuce wrap 😉

Enjoy the day and let me know in the comments what you guys got up to!

Fun find and favorites

Hello and good morning!

I’ve recently come across some things that I am kiiindaa infatuated with and felt the need to share them with you.

Let’s jump in and get the show rolling…

My first favorite is tailoring 😀 I’m a pretty shmall human-I’m about 5 feet tall so I really should be getting more things tailored, but since I have recently decided to forego buying any new clothes I thought it a good idea to alter a couple of pieces to make them more “me.”

I had gotten a pair of summery/beachy pants from TJ Maxx and I got them shortened so I would actually wear them and I am super excited to wear them now that they fit better!

I also decided to shorten the sleeves on this Aritzia dress so now it’s more of a cap/tshirt sleeve situation. It makes it more wearable for me since California runs warmer and it’s definitely more my style!

This Lubriderm moisturizer with SPF is pretty fantastic. We needed a good, everyday moisturizer and this one seemed like a good pic since it had a little bit of SPF in it and I can be lazy about putting on SPF. There is a VERY light clean scent which I love!

Speaking of SPF this face moisturizer from Kiehl’s has been great for the summer. It’s much more lightweight than the cream formula (it’s the texture of drippy lotion) so it’s great for these hotter months when you don’t want a heavy cream on your face. It also contains SPF 30 which is great since I, again, suck at applying SPF AND it’s the same price as the cream BUT for more product! Win, win, win!

I’ve been wanting a pilling remover tool since I heard about it from YouTube, but I kept forgetting about it. I know there’s one on Amazon (let’s be honest, there’s probably 50), but we got ours from Wall-Mart and it’s the greatest, most satisfying invention in the history of man.

We primarily wanted it for an ottoman we had that was in great condition, but had a ton of pilling all over it. We used it and it did such a great job cleaning it all up and the ottoman looked so incredible. It was so satisfying to use it and see the pilling being removed and a beautiful ottoman being revealed. It’s also great for pants, jackets, really any fabric with pilling this will nip in the bud!

Okay, I love summer fruit and mangoes definitely top that list. I could literally eat mango all day…bowls and bowls of cut up mango, but for whatever reason I don’t seem to be good at picking them. On a recent trip to Costco I found these and I am so glad I did because once they are fully ripe they are so sweet and juicy! I highly recommend if you also have trouble finding that perfect mango. I’ve been through one container already and they have all been perfect!

Have you had any fun finds recently (or not recently)? Let’s chat in the comments below!

Our drive from OKC to San Antonio was a long one, but lucky for us Austin is pretty close to San Antonio so it was a quick trip!

We made it to our adorable airBnB and settled in while waiting for B’s brother to arrive from OKC.

We had made plans to hang out with him while we were in Austin. Once he got there we (I) decided tacos were much needed.

We headed to Juan in a Million. We were all starving, but once seated we were greeted with tortilla chips and salsa. The hubs ordered some guac too! We annihilated one basket and she came back with another.

I had to stop eating the chips because our tacos started coming out. I was expecting smaller sizes of tacos, but these were pretty big. Eyes>stomach 😅

I don’t remember which ones we got, but they were all pretty good!

We ended up walking around the area for a bit. They had a lot of little art galleries set up so it was really cool!

We were pretty ready for dessert by this point. I wanted to check out Shipley’s so we went. It was really late in the day so they didn’t have much. I ended up grabbing a glazed to try and it was simply okay.

We were told that they do hot glazed in the morning and I imagine that is way better!

We dropped into Amy’s for some ice-cream. Their Mexican vanilla is very popular and I can see why. It’s so flavorful!

I ended up getting the Oreo which is their Mexican Vanilla with crushed up Oreo. It was fantastic!

We left and walked around a mall until our improv show. We also checked out downtown and some other popular areas.

Austin is so beautiful! I love the neon signs and string lights that are at every restaurant and bar!

After the improv show we grabbed pizza at Homeslice! This place was so cute, but dimly lit.

Each of the menus had a different meme on the front. I thought they were fun!

You guys, it was a cold night and hot pizza definitely hit the spot.

I don’t think any of us could imagine walking out again to find dessert so we had chocolate chip cookies and milk at Homeslice too 😋

These cookies were fat and chewy, but would have been over the top if they had been just a little warm.

I fell asleep in the car on our way back to the airBnB. We crashed so hard once our head hit the pillows.

Our next stop was Lubbock so we got up and grabbed some gas, coffee, and Torchy’s for me before heading out.

I got the breakfast one with brisket in it…the Wrangler I think. I promise this tasted better than it looked!

I will see you guys Thursday with the next leg of our trip!

Have you been to Austin? What did you think?

I am so gleeful and excited to tell you guys that I have my own domain! What used to be grubbingwithjess.wordpress.com is NOW grubbingwithjess.com AHHHH!!

I honestly had no idea how happy this would make me and now I just wanna shout it from the rooftops. I am so pumped to continue posting about food and life and fitness! Anywho thanks for coming along on this journey with me and I hope you stick around 😀
