Christmas in OK

We had a lovely Christmas back at home, but are also happy to be back in a routine after the holidays.

I always feel a bit sad post holiday season, but this year I am happy to get back to day to day.

On the day we arrived we went and stayed at my parents house. I showed hubby family albums and we ate a lot of cookies.

Day 2 was Christmas! Since everything was closed we were restless so we explored some of our old stomping grounds and reminisced about the past and the changes. We decided to grab lunch at IHOP (it was the only thing open)! Pancakes, omelettes, and burgers galore.

Day 3 we finally had the opportunity to hit up the gym and we headed to B’s parent’s house. Before that we had grabbed some treats from Trader Joe’s and had the fam meet us at Torchy’s for tacos.

Day 4 we went to the gym and hung out until dinner time. We checked out a mall and went to Ted’s. I guess we missed our Tex-Mex! Andy’s frozen custard was walking distance so we obviously had to check it out 😁😋

Day 5 included another gym session and eating leftover Ted’s post workout. It’s a commonly known fact that when you go to Ted’s you end up filling up on tortillas, chips, salsa and queso so you take home your entree and that is what happened. It made for a yummy meal! We got some donuts from Hurts donuts for dessert #health. We headed to my parent’s for the night and hung out for a bit before calling it a night!

On Sunday, we woke up dark and early at 4am to get to the airport the next day. We flew home with no bumps or delays and arrived home to run errands and get ready for the week of New Year’s and a busy work week! We had some Blaze pizza with high rise dough this time and cupcakes from our favorite place! We hit the hay quite early-we were pooped!

That, my friends, concludes our Christmas! I hope you all had a lovely holiday!!

Roadtrip: OKC and San Antonio

Good morning lovely people!

We recently did a little roadtrip around Texas for some interviews for hubby.

I thought it would be fun to share our memories here and bring you guys along.

Both hubby and I had to be at work the morning of our trip. I had a class to attend and he had actual work.

I grabbed a quick breakfast from our cafeteria and it really hit the spot! Simple scrambled eggs, breakfast potatoes, and hot sauce all over errythang…

Once we got to the airport that afternoon we grabbed a sandwich to eat.

Later on we grabbed a hummus chicken wrap for dinner since we wouldn’t arrive in OKC until midnight.

We were in Oklahoma for a couple of days. B did his interview in OKC and then we hung out with our families for a couple of days!

November is a very busy month for our family since it’s filled with birthdays and other celebrations. I’m not kidding! We literally have 1 to 2 birthdays a week in November. Since we happened to be in town we just celebrated everything for everyone at one time 😁

I didn’t record much of our time in OKC, but I did get some pics of our cupcakes.

We left OKC for San Antonio very early on a Friday morning. The hubby had rented a Jeep and I can honestly say that it was a great vehicle for this trip. It had navigation, heated seats, heated steering wheel, bluetooth, and so many more things to make many hours of driving bearable!

It’s been pretty gray everywhere since it’s fall. This was our view from our hotel room:

I worked out while hubs did his interview dinner the first night. He brought me home some chick-fil-a #besthusbandever.

I watched a lot of HGTV and Say Yes to the Dress during our 1 night 2 day stay.

The next morning B went back for more interview stuff and I worked out and grabbed some free breakfast from the hotel. I showered and started packing us up for our next leg of the trip!

Once he got back he worked out, ate breakfast, showered and we headed out to Austin.

I’m going to leave it at that! See you guys in Austin 😉

Torchy’s Tacos

I had heard a lot of great things about Torchy’s and so when we learned that they had opened up Torchy’s in OKC we had to check it out.

The siblings all went out one afternoon and had some tacos 🙂

I got 3 tacos:

Mr. Orange which is blackened salmon, corn and black bean relish, cotija cheese, cilantro, and avocado sauce. This was light and fresh and had good flavor, but may have been my least favorite of the three.

Chicken fajita which is grilled chicken strips, grilled onions and peppers, pico, cheddar jack cheese, and tomatillo salsa. This was messy, but delicious and honestly just tasted like a fajita.

Chicken fajita on the left and The Wrangler on the right

I also got a breakfast taco-The Wrangler which is potatoes, eggs, brisket, and cheddar jack cheese with tomatillo salsa. This was my favorite! I loved the tender pieces of shredded brisket and the bite of potato. It was amazing! I’m sad I didn’t get to go back and have more of these…

The hubs got a salad and shared my tacos (thank God because my eyes were bigger than my stomach…what’s new?)

This looked yummy and he said it was good!

For dessert we had their Lil Nookies. This is fried chocolate chip cookie dough that they dust with powdered sugar and you get some cherries to go along with it. These were AMAZING especially warm. They were gooey and chocolatey and crisp on the outside…just be warned they are super rich and pretty sweet!

I didn’t think I would enjoy Torchy’s as much as I did, but I really loved it and would definitely go again.

Do you have a Torchy’s where you live? Do you love it or can you live without it?

Eating Doughnuts in OKC

Umm so this was not intentional, but we had our fair share of donuts while in OKC. We had some Jonuts (their version of cronuts) from Kitchen 324 and some more donuts from Hurts Donuts. Not all on the same day so don’t be alarmed!

The Jonuts were delicious and all filled. I don’t quite remember all the flavors, but I know that there was a citrus one because I tasted it on all the other Jonuts. This was sweet and pretty heavy and perfect for sharing which is what we did.

We all took bites of each one, but they all tasted the same to me even though they were supposed to be different flavors!

Hurts Donuts was a decision we made while looking through Yelp while trying to wake up one morning. They looked SO good!

When we walked into the store, the smell alone made me sugar high. It smelled like sugar heaven!

We got 18 donuts from here ranging from strawberry cheesecake to peanut butter chocolate and of course we had to get both yeast and cake.

After dinner one night we all sat around and took a bite of each-to say that we were delirious from the sugar that night was a little bit of an understatement. BUT when you’re a foodie and food blogger you do what ya gotta do 😉 it’s a tough job!

Both places were delicious and I would recommend both places if you ever find yourself in need of a good doughnut while in OKC 🙂

We recently made a trip to OKC and I am just getting around to putting up these posts (shmurp)! It was filled with a lot of family time and quite a few babies 😀 We had a great time!

We did workout while there and I had a lot of gas station coffee (which is actually pretty good there). We drank cherry limeades from Sonic and visited a few friends, but mostly we just sat around and talked and laughed and threw aluminum foil balls into trashcans.

The other thing we did a lot of was eat 🙂 I definitely did not do a great job taking pictures, but hubby stepped in and took lots of great pictures. Thank the good Lord for him…imagine how bored you’d be reading about the delicious food I had with no pictures!

The best part of being home is having mom’s home made cooking-whether it’s my mom or my MIL the food is always delicious! We ended up having a little get together while there and my MIL made some yummy food…

There was chicken-grilled and flavorful

Biriyani (rice, chicken, spices, etc) and a chickpea curry

We had some salad (#health) and the orangey rice you’re seeing was one of the desserts.

We also had fruit and naan and other dessert which we didn’t get pictures of, but I will continue to dream about and salivate over.

We had a really fun visit and we were sad when it was over, but it’s always nice to come home 🙂
